Judicial Externship
During the summer of 2012, I participated in a judicial externship with U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey at the U.S. District Court in New Orleans. I reported to the courthouse on 10 occasions to learn the function and process of the U.S. judicial system.
Throughout the externship, my daily duties consisted of shadowing Judge Zainey during his docket on civil and criminal cases. I also attended status conferences, jury trials and litigation hearings. The externship taught me how the judicial process works from start to finish.
The experience I obtained during the externship helped me better understand points of civil and criminal law as they relate to media and public litigation. This externship was vital to my developing a larger interest in legal and political issues.Understanding the law and judicial process are invaluable to companies seeking advice on legal matters.

Schulkens Communications
Schulkens Communications is a public relations firm in Metairie, La. This internship exposed me to the formalities of public relations writing, attentiveness and stewardship.
I learned how to organize clippings, maintain client relations and create/edit press releases. I was also fortunate enough to attend a satellite media tour as well as live TV show recordings and brainstorming sessions. Here is an example of an FAQ I helped create for PAX, a company trying to match local families with foreign exchange students.
With the guidance of a public relations juggernaut, Stephen Schulkens, whom previously managed the renowned Ehrhardt Group, I learned to understand the process of succesfully creating, promoting and advocating for clients, business partners or public affairs.
